History:Principality of the Sun

The Principality of the Sun was part of the Kingdom of Atenveldt and covered the modern state of Arizona. The Principality was dissolved in July 1997 and its awards closed.

Order of the Solar Phoenix

Chief award of the principality, this award has two kinds of members: Companions of the Solar Phoenix are those who have served the principality well and faithfully, above and beyond that service normally expected of the subjects of the Crown.

Commanders of the Solar Phoenix are those who have made a major continuing contribution to the Principality and have demonstrated consistent courtesy and chivalry in their behavior. Only one Commander was made during a reign.

Heraldry Award Information Blazon: Quarterly azure and argent, a phoenix gules issuant from flames in base Or, within a bordure embattled gules. Founded: February 29, 1977 by Darius and Samantha Premiere(s): Sequora of Zagamar Recipients: Visit the Order of Precedence.

Charter In Anno Societatis Eleven in the Reign of Their Majesties, Darius and Samantha there was created an award known as the Order of the Solar Phoenix. On February 29 A.S. XI, Sequora of Zagamar was made premier of the order. There shall exist in the Principality of the Sun an award, Known as the Order of the Solar Phoenix, which may be given by the Prince and Princess, subject to the pleasure of the Crown, to those persons whom they feel served the Principality well and faithfully, above and beyond that service normally expected of the subject of the Crown. The holders of the award shall be styled as Companions of the Solar Phoenix and shall be entitled to place the initials C.S.P. after their names.    The insignia of the order shall consist of a medallion, pendant from a blue ribbon, bearing, “A phoenix rising from flames”.  Arms and Precedence: The award shall carry with it, subject to the pleasure of the crown, an Award of Arms, and companions of the order shall take precedence after armigerous kingdom orders but before baronial orders.  If the award is given to a person who bears an award carrying higher precedence than given above, his/her precedence shall remain unchanged.  If the award is given to a person who has previously received an Award of Arms, his/her precedence shall date from his/her election to the order. Amendments to this constitution shall be made by the Coronet of the Sun after due consultation with the Crown. The companionship of all previous recipients of this award is hereby confirmed. Order of the Esprit de Soleil

Given by the Prince and Princess to those who have exhibited talent, enthusiasm, and a willingness to share their knowledge worthy of recognition in the arts and sciences. In Anno Societatis XVII (1982), in the reign of Thomas and Anastasia there was created an award known as the Order of the Esprit du Soleil. On May 15, A.S XVII Erik MacRory was made Premier of the Order.

Heraldry Award Information Blazon: A fireball sable, enflamed in cross proper, charged with a harp Or, hung from a green ribbon. Founded: May 15, 1982 by Thomas and Anastasia Premiere(s): Erik MacRory Recipients: Visit the Order of Precedence.

Order of the Fanged Wolf

Given by the Prince and Princess to those who have demonstrated excellence in the fighting arts, both in the teaching and use of traditional SCA-style weaponry. In Anno Societatis XIX (1984) in the reign of Rotwulf and Naomi there was created an award known as the Fanged Wolf. On September 23 AS. XIX, Siegfried of the Black Glae was made Premier of the Order.

Heraldry Award Information Blazon: Argent, a wolf salient to sinister and a base rayonny gules.    Founded: May 15, 1982 by Thomas and Anastasia Premiere(s): Erik MacRory Recipients: Visit the Order of Precedence.

Order of the Eye of the Eagle

Given to those who have demonstrated excellence in both the teaching and use of archery, shinai, or rapier skills. The order's badge was “an eagle's head erased within seven pheons in annulo, points outward, Or”. In Anno Societatis XXIII (1988) in the reign of Adam and Eirianedd was created an award known as the order of the Eye of the Eagle. On March 18 AS. XXIII, Morgil en Tuare Andune was make Premier of the Order.

The insignia of the order shall be, subject to approval by the SCA College of Arms: Argent, an eagle rising addorsed within an arrow, a rapier, a katana, and a bow, all mascle-wise gules. Arms and Precedence: a. The award shall carry with it, subject to the pleasure of the crown, an Award of Arms, and companions of the order shall take precedence after armigerous kingdom orders but before baronial orders. b. If the award is given to a person who bears an award carrying higher precedence than given above, his/her precedence shall remain unchanged. c. If the award is given to a person who has previously received and Award of Arms, his/her precedence shall date from his/her election to the order. Amendments to this constitution shall be made by the Coronet of the Sun after due consultation with the Crown. Order of the Iron Dragon

Given for exceptional authenticity in behavior, dress, and other areas, the award has two levels, “Companions” and “Sergeants”

In Anno Societatis XII (1977) in the reign of Ivan and Kathleen there was created an award known as The Order of the Iron Dragon. Zsoltan Kovacs was named Premier and Ioseph of Locksley was named Principal.

Companions of the Order shall have the right to place the initials "C.I.G." following their names, and shall be styled in processional as "Companions of the Iron Dragon".Sergeants of the order shall have the right to place the initials "S.I.G." following their names, and shall be styled in processional as "Sergeants of the Iron Dragon".

The following amendment is made to the constitutions for the Order of the Iron Dragon and the Order of the Sergeants of the Iron Dragon. The section dealing with Arms and Precedence shall read as follows:  Arms and Precedence  The award shall carry with it, subject to the pleasure of the crown, an Award of Arms, and companions of the order shall take precedence after armigerous kingdom orders but before baronial orders.  If the award is given to a person who bears an award carrying higher precedence than given above, his/her precedence shall remain unchanged. If the award is given to a person who has previously received and Award of Arms, his/her precedence shall date from his/her election to the order.

The Orders of the Iron Dragon and The Sergeants of the Iron Dragon are hereby closed. The membership is to be frozen at the current level, and all companions of the order shall retain all of the rights and privileges of the order. Sergeants of the Iron Dragon are further confirmed with the right to fly the Ensign of the Sun from this day forward.
