Heraldry
“Per pale argent and sable, two harpies addorsed counterchanged.”
SCA Origin
Roša Duvanova doch' Sychevna—known in the SCA as Lady Roša—is a member of the Kingdom of Atenveldt, currently living in the Barony of Atenveldt. She has a passion for sustainability and ancient Slavic history and traditions.
She first joined the SCA in 2005.
Her deeper involvement began in 2008 in the Kingdom of Meridies, specifically in the Shire of Crimson River. There, she learned hands-on skills through local Arts & Sciences gatherings.
After returning to Atenveldt in 2009, she became active with the College of Brymstonne (ASU’s SCA group, part of the Barony of Twin Moons). She continued learning and sharing knowledge with the group until it disbanded in 2015.
Persona
Roša (pronounced RO-sha) is an 11th-century Western Slavic traveler. Her persona is mostly nomadic and travels along the trade routes of the Volga River. Her style is inspired by both Polish Slavs and the Kievan Rus.
Her heraldry is inspired by Russian folklore—specifically the Sirin and Alkonost, mystical bird-women who represent joy and sorrow.
Roša’s name is a tribute to her father. “Duvan” is a Russian-language adaptation of his name, Dwaine. Since she originally wanted owls in her heraldry, she chose “Sychevna” (meaning “of the owl”) as her surname. Her full name—Duvanova doch' Sychevna—means “Duvan The Owl’s daughter.”
