Once...in the dark times...a young military veteran was swept up in an adventure. It was the year of Estrella VII...the year of the Microburst. The Young Man was told he was going "camping". Little did he know the fate that awaited him.
The goal is to be a "Renaissance Person". A "Jack-of-all-trades". Me? I cause trouble. I tell the Emperor he's Naked.
Fergie started playing at Estrella VII (1990) when he was kidnapped and taken to the event. He arrived in the middle of the night under the cover of darkness. His friend invited him to "go camping" and found out what that really meant. He was told to wear sweatpants and large shirts. He set up his old boy scout tent at 2 am. The next day there was fog. There were banners flapping in the distance, a lady with a barmaids corset and offered him breakfast on a platter. While on the field the marshal pointed to each side who shouted, "Tastes great" then "Less filling". After the battle ensued, he was bowled over by the blast wave and decided he was home.
When Fergie is not causing trouble, he is often found on the archery field or volunteering. His main pursuit is having fun and making sure that everyone else is having fun. While he's not part of a household, they do refer to their place at "Fergatori." Population 3 that includes his wife, Kytte Kat (Lady Kytteanna atte Rose) and their cat, Hemm.
Fergie is a former squire to Sir Justin du Roc, but took an arrow to the knee and no longer fights. He does dabble in rapier however. He is currently passionate about recruiting newcomers, especially young people. He wants them to know that there is a better way of living through, honor, chivalry and service. He wants to preserve the legacy by encouraging the young to help our older generation and focus on continuing the traditions of the SCA.
What's in a Name
Fergie pointed to a page at random in a book of Scottish baby names, his finger landed on "Fergus." DeBotha is a family name.
Persona
Fergie primarily plays a Scottish/Norman persona. Dad was Norman, mom was Scottish and was part of King William's run on England in 1066, the battle of Hastings. As the second son he was bound for the priesthood, when he decided to jump ship, literally! He spent a good time in Spain for the Reconquista where he learned his letters and made his way with his wits, strength, and amazing charm. He also tended to exaggerate some which made him a good story teller.
Heraldry Story
Fergie picked his heraldry because he went to a herald and told them that he just wanted something that would pass. He liked wolves and that was the only direction he gave and this is what he ended up with. It passed the first time!
