Anabel started playing in March of 2008 and her first event was Sun Dragon Investiture with Kathlyn and Ryan and were stepping down and Theresa and Robert were stepping up for Baroness and Baron. She worked with Diego and she told him she needed a hobby. Diego kept throwing the Southwind Newsletter on her desk and she finally was convinced to come. She really liked that there was something for everyone.
Anabel started out fighting rapier, archery, scribal. She really enjoys the service including finding sites and running events and holding office. She started the Barony of Sun Dragon to use Bumble Bee Ranch for several events for several years.
She is currently reacquainting herself with the people as she's had a break. She would like to focus on diversity and inclusion.
What's in a Name
Anabel wanted to be English, and wanted to be Ann, couldn't find Ann, but looked in the names for Scotland and found Anabel and thought that would be good enough. At the time in SCA she was the only one who had her name spelled that way. Her last name was originally Chesehelme which was a variation of her step-father's last name, but no one could pronounce it or spell it. So she went with her mundane last name of Pennington which was easily traced back to period.
Anabel plays 1500's Scottish/English lady. Anabel also time travels to other periods including Norse and Irish.
Anabel's heraldry has a story. The three sunflowers represent her and her children and how close they are to one another. The sunflowers are special because where ever they are planted they help take the toxins out of the soil. They leave the world better than they found it. The vair symbolic of weasel fur, people in the middle ages would sprinkle the weasel fur into the noble's drinks and with the belief that it would absorb poison/toxins.
